BALLET

Our Ballet classes follow the internationally recognised Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. Through ballet students develop the awareness of coordination, posture, performance and musicality in a fun learning environment. We encourage students to aim towards sitting examinations or presentation classes which we work on throughout the year. Students also get the opportunity to perform through our concerts and informal showings.

JAZZ

Our Jazz classes follow the NZAMD Jazz Examination Syllabus. Jazz dance puts emphasis on the dancer's presentation, energy and style. Throughout the junior grades students learn various exercises and steps that allow them to develop strength and flexibility. Students also learn a number of different isolations, leaps, jumps, turns and dance sequences. Major grades contain a range of combination styles including funk, latin, rock n roll, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary and caberet influences - just to name a few! Dancers can also work towards medal awards if they do not wish to sit an exam.

CONTEMPORARY

Our Contemporary classes follow the NZAMD Contemporary syllabus. Students work towards sitting examinations throughout the year also getting the opportunity to perform through our concerts and informal showings. Contemporary style focuses on the concepts of use of weight, flow, momentum and gravity. Students also learn about freedom of movement, space, use of breath, anatomy and through exercises and theory well known contemporary artists.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop dance can be seen in many music videos these days and are a great class to attend if you want to learn sequences or dances just for fun! Our Hiphop classes include exercises from the NZAMD Hiphop Syllabus as well as sequences from the teacher's own dance vocabulary. Students learn about the different areas of Hiphop dance and work towards medal awards, exams and concert work. The classes are high in energy, full of attitude and contain the latest music to inspire students!

TAP

Our Tap classes follow the NZAMD Tap Examination Syllabus. Tap dance puts emphasis on the dancer's rhythm and timing, and the NZAMD syllabus includes a relaxed Hip Hop style of tap, rather than the traditional show tap. Dancers are challenged with different time signatures in the music, and play with syncopation of tapping on and off the beat. Tap dance develops co ordination of the entire body and can be a great way to help the dancer develop their musicality skills.

STRETCH AND STRENGTHENING

Our Stretch and Strengthening classes are designed to help build strength and flexibility that is needed throughout the different styles of dance particularly in the higher grades. Students are encouraged to attend these classes and the exercises are adjusted to suit the needs and ability of each participant. We also cater for the needs of those just wanting to keep in shape! Any age welcome.
